Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is set to start supplying its Attrage compact car to European auto giant Fiat Chrysler Automobiles later this year, sources close to the matter said Friday.

The firms might announce the plan as early as next week.

Mitsubishi is expected to provide Fiat Chrysler with its 1,200cc Attrage made at its plant in Thailand under the Chrysler brand, the sources said, adding that several thousand units are expected to be supplied annually.

While Fiat Chrysler aims to bolster its sales in Asia, Mitsubishi is likely to benefit from the effects of mass production at the plant, which has an annual capacity of 500,000 units.
