Clothing manufacturer Sanyo Shokai Ltd. said it will cease making and selling garments under the Burberry brand in Japan when existing contracts with Burberry Ltd. expire by the end of June 2015. The relationship began in 1970.

The British high-end tailor plans to launch its own sales in Japan.

But the Japanese apparel maker said Monday it will retain licensing contracts for clothing currently sold under its Burberry Black Label and Burberry Blue Label brands. It created the lines in the late 1990s exclusively for the Japanese market and will rename them Black Label and Blue Label.
