Tokyo Game Show 2014, one of the world’s biggest game exhibitions, will be held from Sept. 18 to 21 with an emphasis on attracting visitors and exhibitors from Asia, the organizer said Wednesday.
At the 24th annual event, to be held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture, cloud gaming and games for smartphones as well as independently made games known as indie games will be showcased, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association said.
To promote the event, the association is planning to hold contests for “cosplayers” dressed as Japanese animation characters in Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam ahead of the trade show. The organizer is expecting to draw more than 220,000 visitors and 300 exhibitors this year. In 2013, the event attracted a record 270,197 visitors from 42 countries and 352 exhibitors.
