Hitachi Ltd. said Monday it has opened a branch office in Yangon of its Thai subsidiary, aiming to gather more information about the Myanmar market for home appliances and power station equipment.

The Japanese electronics manufacturer said it hopes the launch of the branch of Hitachi Asia (Thailand) Co. in Myanmar's biggest city will aid in conducting market research.

Hitachi has been engaged in infrastructure development in the Southeast Asian country since the 1950s, mainly providing instruments to local power plants, according to the company.
