Hitachi Ltd. said Thursday it has begun building a $100 million factory in Mexico and aims to start production in April 2014.

The new 200,000-sq.-meter factory of Hitachi Automotive Systems Queretaro S.A. de C.V. in the state of Queretaro will make suspensions and other auto components, Hitachi Automotive Systems Ltd., a Hitachi subsidiary, said.

Investment will come to a combined $100 million, or ¥7.8 billion, over the four-year period through 2015, Hitachi Automotive said.
