Yoshimasa Hayashi, a former economic minister, said Sunday that he plans to run next month in the conservative Liberal Democratic Party’s presidential election.
Hayashi, a member of the Upper House, said on a TV program that his “feelings remain the same” and he will enter the race if he meets the leading opposition party’s requirement of gathering 20 endorsement signatures from other LDP lawmakers. The election is most likely to be held in late September.
