Indian-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. plans to resume production next week at its violence-wracked production plant in Manesar in the northern Indian state of Haryana, Indian media said Tuesday.

The Hindustan Times said production at Manesar will resume Aug. 21, a day before a visit to India by Suzuki Motor Corp. Chairman Osamu Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki shut down the plant after it was wracked by worker violence last month that led to the death of a plant manager and injured 100 others.

In a meeting with top Maruti Suzuki management Monday, the Haryana government promised to deploy a rapid action force to ensure the safety of workers and managers at the plant, the Hindustan Times said.
