Jiji president to quit over plagiarism

Jiji Press Ltd. director Yutaka Nishizawa, 62, will soon replace Masahiro Nakata, 64, the news agency’s president, who will resign to take responsibility for the copying of a Kyodo News report by a Jiji reporter.

The replacement will be finalized June 30 at a general shareholders’ meeting and a subsequent board meeting, Jiji said Monday. The news agency decided late last month that Nakata would remain as president beyond June 30.

A Jiji reporter copied a Kyodo report from Washington on the payment of fines by a major Dutch bank to the U.S. government, including Kyodo in the dateline, on June 13.
