Farm minister Michihiko Kano said Tuesday he will attend a meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation ministers in charge of food security from Wednesday in Kazan, western Russia.

"The APEC ministers will discuss food production increase" to keep up with population growth at the two-day meeting, Kano told a news conference after a Cabinet meeting.

Other agenda items include restrictions on food imports and women's participation in the agricultural sector, Kano said.

The meeting is the second of APEC ministers in charge of food security, following one in Niigata in October 2010.
