Killer’s 15-year prison term finalized

The 15-year prison term for the killer of a 5-year-old girl in Chiba Prefecture is now final after the Supreme Court rejected his appeal.

Ryo Katsuki, 25, abducted nursery school pupil Yukimaro Narita on a street in Togane, Chiba Prefecture, in September 2008 and drowned her in a bathtub at his home before abandoning her body. The focal point of the case was whether Katsuki, who has a mental disability, would be able to understand the court proceedings enough to be held criminally liable, and to what extent.

Last month, the top court rejected his appeal of lower court rulings only to see the defendant file an objection, which was dismissed Saturday, the nation’s highest court said.
