IBM Japan to get foreign president

IBM Japan Ltd. said Friday that Martin Jetter, vice president of corporate strategy with U.S. parent International Business Machines Corp., will succeed Takayuki Hashimoto as its president on May 15.

Jetter, 52, will be the first non-Japanese president of IBM Japan in nearly 56 years. He will join the IBM Japan board Sunday before taking the helm of the Tokyo-based company. Hashimoto, 57, who assumed the IBM Japan’s presidency in January 2009, will become chairman of the board, replacing Takuma Otoshi, 63.
