Olympus Corp. former President Michael C. Woodford, who exposed the shady deals the firm made to conceal bubble-era losses, said Wednesday he will publish his memoirs of the scandal in April just before shareholders vote to approve its new management team.
The 320-page memoir will reveal the inside story of the ordeal leading up to the 51-year-old Briton's sudden dismissal in mid-October, including his disclosure of the optical equipment maker's ¥117.7 billion accounting fraud. The book will be released April 15 in Japanese, with an English edition set for October, according to Hayakawa Publishing Corp.
The book is set to hit Japanese shelves ahead of the firm's April 20 investors' meeting, which Woodford said he will attend.
Woodford, who was also CEO, said Wednesday he still loves Japan and he hopes the book helps improve its murky corporate governance.
The Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission has filed criminal complaints with prosecutors against Olympus, three of its former executives and three others suspected of being involved in the accounting fraud.
