TOYAMA – An art craft work firm in Toyama Prefecture is taking orders for three solid gold statues of Jack Sparrow, the protagonist in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series, with a price tag of ¥36 million each.
Kurotani Corp. in the city of Imizu said Wednesday the 1.80-kg, 26-cm-tall figures accurately represent the facial expression and costume of the character played by Johnny Depp.
“We want collectors of this golden Jack Sparrow to enjoy the afterglow of the movies in their homes, too,” a Kurotani representative said.
The firm warned that the price could change in line with fluctuations in the price of gold.
Jewel and craft work firms occasionally make precious-metal statues of popular movie and “anime” characters, ranging from Hello Kitty to the Gundam fighting robot series.
In 2007, Bandai Co., in collaboration with Tokyo jeweler Ginza Tanaka, created a Gundam figure rendered in pure platinum, measuring 125 mm and weighing 1.4 kg.
