Nobuteru Ishihara, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, Thursday indicated his willingness to run in next year's party presidential election if the incumbent, Sadakazu Tanigaki, does not seek a second term.

"The utmost task for us is to win a general election under the leadership of President Tanigaki," Ishihara told reporters in Washington.

"Should he not run for election, however, I also have an idea," the LDP's No. 2 lawmaker said.
