The rules for setting up solar power plants are likely to ease next year, given the increasing importance of renewable energy in light of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant crisis, industry ministry officials said Thursday.

An advisory panel to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has approved a plan to allow the establishment of solar facilities that use 75 percent of a site, compared with 50 percent under the current rule.
