OSAKA (Kyodo) Osaka Gov. Toru Hashimoto left Tuesday for New Delhi to promote Osaka Prefecture's industrial sector in the Indian capital.

Hashimoto plans to promote Osaka at the International Engineering and Technology Fair set to open there Thursday. He is also scheduled to meet Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday before returning to Japan on Sunday.

Last week, Hashimoto said he wanted to learn what is needed to strengthen cities and why leaders of many nations visit India.

Hashimoto hopes to draw inspiration from the rapidly growing country in an effort to revitalize Osaka, where the economy has long remained sluggish.

Information technology companies based in Osaka and other parts of the Kansai region will be participating in the fair and will have exchange sessions with Indian companies.
