The Iron County Attorney's Office in Utah has charged the Japanese driver of a small bus that was involved in an accident that killed three Japanese tourists and injured 11 others in southern Utah last month, a Utah Highway Patrol source said Tuesday.

The driver, Yasushi Mikuni, a resident of Las Vegas, was arrested in Cedar City, the source said without specifying the charges.

The Highway Patrol investigated an allegation that the accident was attributed to the driver being drowsy while driving.

He was working for a bus company in Utah and studying at a university in Nevada.

The bus ran off the left side of a highway north of Cedar City on Aug. 9 and rolled 1 1/2 times before ending up on its top, killing Hiroki Hayase, 20, from Osaka Prefecture, and two other Japanese.
