JERUSALEM (Kyodo) A Japanese business delegation visited Palestinian companies in the West Bank Monday under an initiative of the Japan External Trade Organization.

The delegation headed by JETRO Chairman Yasuo Hayashi consisted of officials from four companies, including trading house Itochu Corp. and water purification technology company Nippon Poly-Glu Co.

The West Bank has seen its economy develop in recent years amid relatively stable security. In 2009, real GDP rose an estimated 8.5 percent.

The group visited a limestone company in Bethlehem, JETRO officials said.

The company expressed hope for exports to Japan but cited high export costs as a major problem.
