Japan said Friday it will ease security restrictions in March on the number of flights to and from China, Hong Kong and Russia at Hokkaido's New Chitose Airport to boost the number of tourists to the prefecture.

The tourism ministry and the Defense Ministry agreed to extend the hours to accommodate more flights at the airport, which is adjacent to the Air Self-Defense Force's Chitose Base.

At present, China, Hong Kong and Russia flights have a small window of operations.
