Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said Thursday he will appoint Yukio Edano, former policy chief of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, as his special adviser.

Edano is expected to mainly work to reduce the workload of of administrative reform minister Yoshito Sengoku, who has just assumed Naoto Kan’s duties as national policy minister.
