Industrial output rose a seasonally adjusted 0.5 percent in October from the previous month, unchanged from the preliminary reading, the government said in its revised report Monday.

The index of output at mines and factories remained at 86.1 against the base of 100 for 2005. Industrial production expanded for the eighth consecutive month, the longest under the current base year, on robustness in such sectors as general machinery, information and communications electronics, and fabricated metals.

The index of industrial shipments rose 1.3 percent to 88.8 while that of inventories fell 1.5 percent to 93.3, both unchanged from the preliminary report released Nov. 30 by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The continued growth in output, although the pace of rise became slower, came amid expansion in exports of machinery, including devices to make semiconductors destined for Taiwan and South Korea, METI said. Domestic demand was brisk for items such as components for steam turbines at power plants, mobile phones and laptop computers.
