The panel tasked with cutting government spending is advising that a rocket project worth hundreds of billions of yen be scrapped as part of the administration's efforts to identify waste in ministry budget requests for fiscal 2010.

On Tuesday, the fifth day of the panel's nine-day, open-door scrutiny of ministries' budget requests, the Government Revitalization Unit screened 26 projects in three working groups.
