The Tokyo High Public Prosecutor's Office has imprisoned former TV commentator and economist Kazuhide Uekusa, who was sentenced to four months for groping a female high school student on a Tokyo train in 2006.

The imprisonment Monday of the 48-year-old former professor in the graduate school of Nagoya University of Commerce & Business came after the Supreme Court rejected his final appeal in June, upholding the prison term for public indecency handed down in district and high court trials.

Uekusa's lawyers said he "swears to the heavens that he is innocent." They released a statement saying they will consider pursuing a retrial as they continue to argue he was falsely charged.

Uekusa was convicted of putting his hands up the student's skirt and touching her body on a Keihin Kyuko Line train between Shinagawa and Kamata stations on Sept. 13, 2006.
