The Democratic Party of Japan's fiscal policy stance is bordering on the criminal, Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano charged Monday.

Yosano's strong criticism of the DPJ apparently reflects his frustration over the hard time facing the Liberal Democratic Party ahead of the general election.

"It is fun to play in the world of imagination and fantasy," Yosano told reporters when asked about the DPJ's claims of where it can secure the money to pay for its policies.

"It is almost nearly equal to committing a crime, as the party is tricking people into thinking their lives would be ensured," Yosano said, referring to the DPJ's contention that it would be capable of providing better measures by cutting unnecessary public spending and using cash reserves pooled in special government accounts.
