BANKOK (Kyodo) A Japanese man wanted in Japan for child pornography offenses will stand trial in Thailand on charges of disseminating indecent materials for commercial purposes, Thai police said Thursday.

The Thai police, acting on a warrant issued by a Japanese court, arrested Hirokazu Nishioka, 38, on Tuesday.

If found guilty in Thailand, Nishioka will face up to three years in prison and a fine of up to 6,000 baht ($175). If sentenced, he would have to complete his term in Thailand before any extradition could be made.

Nishioka was arrested at his home in Chiang Mai Province, where more than 100 CDs and DVDs of child porn movies were confiscated with a personal computer, a Thai police official said.

It is not known whether Nishioka abused children in Thailand.

"He simply downloaded those pornography movies from various Web sites, reproduced them and posted them to Japan," said police Col. Woraphong Thongphaibun of the Children, Juveniles and Women Division of the Central Investigation Bureau.
