HIROSHIMA (Kyodo) The Yomiuri Shimbun said Tuesday it will call on a 32-year-old sports reporter to quit for plagiarizing passages from a sports column in the Hiroshima-based Chugoku Shimbun.

The Osaka headquarters of the major daily said an in-house probe found that the reporter had plagiarized the Chugoku Shimbun's baseball articles on the Hiroshima Carp a total of eight times between January 2008 and earlier this month.

The Yomiuri apologized to the Chugoku Shimbun and said it is planning to ask the reporter to leave the company, possibly next month, and reprimand the reporter's superiors for overlooking the practice.
