NAGOYA (Kyodo) A man was arrested Monday on suspicion of trespassing on the tracks of the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, police said.

The man, whose identity was not immediately released, allegedly jumped over a fence and got on the tracks about 1 km west of Mishima Station in Shizuoka Prefecture at around 12:25 p.m., the police said.

According to Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai), operator of the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, he delayed seven trains by about 35 minutes and affected some 5,000 passengers.

The man, who was later taken into police custody, was unhurt. Police said they were questioning him about his motive.
