BEIJING (Kyodo) A senior official of the Chinese Communist Party has told a Diet member that China is willing to consider various options for restarting the six-party talks on North Korea, including mediating between Washington and Pyongyang, according to a source familiar with the talks.

Wang Jiarui, head of the CCP's International Department, made the remarks to Kuniko Inoguchi, a Lower House member from the Liberal Democratic Party, in a meeting Friday, the source said.

The six-party talks, stalled since December, were complicated further after North Korea announced last month it was pulling out of the talks.

Wang also mentioned the possibility of holding a three-way meeting among China, North Korea and the United States as well as carrying out working group meetings under the six-way framework.
