Industrial demand for electricity in December posted its largest-ever year-to-year fall as recession-hit manufacturers reduced their production, an industry body said in a preliminary report Wednesday.
The total decreased 13 percent to 21.547 billion kwh, exceeding the 9.3 percent drop in May 1975 after the first oil crisis, the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan said.
