Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. led a rise in domestic vehicle production in February, helped by exports to emerging markets.

The country's 12 automakers boosted their combined output 9 percent to 1.1 million cars, trucks and buses in February, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said Monday. Exports climbed 13 percent to 587,825.

Toyota boosted domestic output 6.1 percent to 392,457 vehicles. Exports rose 7 percent to 230,406, mostly to China and the Middle East. Nissan's Japan production rose 28 percent to 140,699, and exports jumped 49 percent as shipments to Europe jumped 47 percent.
