NAGASAKI (Kyodo) Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped the case against a man who killed himself after allegedly shooting dead another man and a woman and injuring six other people in a shotgun rampage at a fitness club in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, in December.

The Sasebo branch of the Nagasaki District Public Prosecutor's Office said it has decided not to proceed with an indictment because the suspect, Masayoshi Magome, 37, is already dead.

The decision ended all criminal investigations by police and prosecutors into the Dec. 14 incident.

"His motive is presumed to have been despair over mounting debts, but we can't ascertain the details," Hiroya Nitta, deputy chief prosecutor at the office said.
