OSAKA – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 hit areas encompassing Shimane Prefecture on Sunday morning, the Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the 8:14 a.m. quake, and no tsunami warnings were issued.
The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in western Shimane Prefecture, and 3 in other parts of the prefecture and northern Hiroshima Prefecture, according to the agency.
After the quake, West Japan Railway Co. briefly suspended operations on its Sanko Line to check the tracks.
