Two U.S. Army soldiers died and one was injured when their car slammed into a signpost Saturday in Okinawa, police said.
Richard Thomas Smith, 27, and Kenneth J. Thomas, 25, both sergeants based in Okinawa, died of injuries sustained when the car they were in swerved into the signpost in the south of the island, police official Hirokazu Okuhama said.
A third soldier, 39-year-old Byron Anthony West, was injured, Okuhama said. Authorities suspect West was driving under the influence of alcohol, he said.
