The health ministry has confirmed Japan's 31st case of mad cow disease, this time involving a Holstein in Hokkaido.
Tests on the 84-month-old cow showed it was infected with the fatal illness, the ministry said Friday.
The animal will be destroyed and incinerated so its parts will not be circulated for consumption or used as feed, the ministry said on its Web site.
