Tax revenues shrank 15 percent in July from a year earlier to 3.48 trillion yen, the Finance Ministry said Friday.

Income tax revenue fell 32.7 percent to 1.61 trillion yen as the government further transferred authority to collect taxes to municipalities.

Consumption tax revenue dropped 3.0 percent to 886.08 billion yen.

In contrast, corporate tax revenue jumped 561.7 percent to 194.76 billion yen, since tax authorities did not have to pay refunds to companies as they did a year ago.

Tobacco tax revenue grew 44.4 percent to 110.75 billion yen, and liquor tax revenue rose 2 percent to 122.47 billion yen.
