A male student at Kansai University fell to his death from a four-story apartment building in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, after apparently taking some illegal drugs, police said Tuesday.

The 19-year-old, whose name has been withheld, was taken to a hospital Monday night and was proclaimed dead Tuesday morning, the police said.

They planned to conduct an autopsy to check for drugs.

Investigators seized a pack of powdered drugs from a friend of the student who is being questioned on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs.

The friend, whose identity has also been withheld, told police he purchased two packs of drugs in Osaka's Minami amusement district a week before and sold one to the student for 4,000 yen.

The dead teenager, a second-year student of law at the Osaka-based university, reportedly took the 0.35-gram pack of powdered drugs at a university club headquarters on the Suita campus at around 8:30 p.m. Monday. The friend, a 23-year-old male student, and a 19-year-old female student were present at the time, the police said.
