OSAKA (Kyodo) Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will pay up to 50,000 yen to each of its 80,000 domestic group employees on top of their semiannual bonuses in July as it is set to achieve targets under a three-year business plan, company officials said Tuesday.

The extra money, the first of its kind in six years, is also intended to give workers an incentive to meet Matsushita's next target for raising consolidated sales to 10 trillion yen by fiscal 2010, an official at the company's public relations office said.

The consumer electronics giant's consolidated net profit for the year to last March 31 more than doubled to 154.41 billion yen. Group sales rose 2.1 percent to 8.89 trillion yen thanks to robust sales of items that include plasma TVs and digital home appliances.
