A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old girl in the parking lot of a convenience store in Nishi Ward, Kobe, earlier in the day.

Manabu Kawamoto of Furukawa, Hyogo Prefecture, was apprehended at the scene and admitted stabbing the girl, police said.

According to police, Azusa Miyamoto, who lived in Kobe, was stabbed twice in the stomach with a knife at around 4:25 a.m. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died of blood loss.

Miyamoto had dated the suspect in the past and had reportedly told police she was having trouble trying to break off the relationship.

She went to the convenience store Monday with another man, according to police.

Kawamoto told investigators he became angry when he saw her and stabbed her.

Police are questioning Kawamoto about his possible motive.
