Softbank Corp. said Saturday it is in talks with Vodafone Group PLC of Britain about buying a controlling stake in Japanese subsidiary Vodafone K.K.
The deal would make Softbank Japan's third-largest full-service carrier, supplying both fixed-line and mobile phone services, following the NTT group and KDDI Corp.
Vodafone Group is the world's biggest mobile phone carrier.
