Two F-15 fighter jets of the Air Self-Defense Force collided over water northwest of Hokkaido on Tuesday morning and made safe emergency landings, ASDF officials said.
Both jets landed at the Chitose air base near Sapporo with only slight damage, and no one was injured, they said.
The 10:10 a.m. accident occurred shortly after the two planes started an air combat exercise, they said.
The ASDF opened an investigation, the officials said.
