Lawson Inc. said Wednesday it has asked Yamato Transport Co. to maintain their partnership even after Lawson starts handling parcels for Japan Post in mid-November.

The convenience store operator said it wants to renew a business alliance with Yamato, Japan's largest door-to-door parcel delivery service firm, when their current contract expires Nov. 19.

But Yamato said it has no intention of continuing its alliance with Lawson unless the convenience store chain alters its stance on cooperating with Japan Post.

Last month, Yamato decided to terminate its alliance with Lawson when the current contract expires, with Lawson having agreed to handle Japan Post parcels through its nationwide store chain.
