Dentsu Inc. said Monday that its group operating profit in the April-June quarter jumped 90.3 percent from a year earlier to 10.18 billion yen.

Japan's largest advertising agency said its sales expanded due to the economic recovery and the favorable effects of the Athens Olympics.

In its consolidated earnings report for the first quarter of fiscal 2004, the company said its revenue grew 12.1 percent to 452.94 billion yen.

Business was also boosted by the brisk performance of group companies and a decline in retirement benefit payments, Dentsu said.

For the year to March 2005, Dentsu left unchanged its earlier forecast for 23.6 billion yen in net profit on 1.86 trillion yen in revenue.
