Two of Japan's leading feed manufacturers -- Nosan Corp. and Nippon Formula Feed Manufacturing Co. -- said Tuesday they have agreed to integrate some of their production facilities.

Nosan, an affiliate of Mitsubishi Corp., and Nippon Formula Feed, an affiliate of Mitsui & Co., said their partnership is aimed at meeting growing demand for safe and inexpensive feed in the wake of the mad cow disease outbreaks in Japan and abroad.

A type of feed known as meat-and-bone meal is blamed for the spread of the brain-wasting disease.

Mitsubishi and Mitsui have also agreed to participate in the tieup to facilitate collaboration between Nosan and Nippon Formula Feed in production, distribution, and research and development.

The assistance from the trading houses will focus on procuring raw materials.

The two feed makers will integrate some of their production facilities and have them focus on specific feed types.
