Mitsui Chemicals Inc. said Friday it will ask Chinese authorities for permission to build a plant in Jiangsu Province to produce raw materials for polyester and plastic bottles.
The plant is expected to start operations in 2008, with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons, it said.
The plant would produce high-purity terephthalic acid, demand for which is rapidly growing in China, it said.
