The ruling Liberal Democratic Party will consider withdrawing a boycott against TV Asahi Corp. and allow members of the party to appear on the broadcaster's programs, LDP Secretary General Shinzo Abe said Friday.

The LDP has urged its members to refrain from appearing on TV Asahi programs to protest its reports on the LDP presidential election and House of Representatives election last year.

Abe's statement came after TV Asahi punished seven people Thursday for failing to give due consideration to the content of some TV programs involving the two elections.

Abe also complained that a TV Asahi program erroneously illustrated former Transport Minister Takao Fujii, a senior LDP lawmaker, as heckling an opposition lawmaker who was posing questions at a Diet session on North Korea's abduction of Japanese nationals.
