A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly severing computer cables at the check-in counters of Japan Airlines System Corp. and All Nippon Airways Co. at Naha airport.

The airlines discovered in the morning that the cables had been cut on all 29 computers at the JAL counters, which are also used by Japan TransOcean Air, and 12 of ANA's 26 computers, airline officials said.

There have been no flight delays, and the airlines will operate as usual.

The suspect was identified as Kunio Takeuchi, 46, of Kobe. He was found hiding in a lavatory for the disabled on the airport's second floor at around 6 a.m.

Okinawa Prefectural Police said he made incoherent remarks to investigators. He also admitted severing the cables but said he did not know why.

He told police he had been seeing a psychiatrist, they said.
