A bullet train hit and killed a person Monday morning on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) and police said.
The collision made a large hole in the nose of the train, which was traveling at about 250 kph, they said.
Later in the day, the Aichi Prefectural Police identified the victim as a 33-year-old male postal worker from Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture. Police suspect he wanted to kill himself because he apparently got onto the tracks after climbing over a 3-meter-high soundproof fence.
