A power outage halted a bullet train late Friday night in the village of Ajikata, Niigata Prefecture, stranding 210 passengers for about two hours in unheated cars, East Japan Railway Co. said.

Toki No. 341, originating in Tokyo, came to a halt around 11:50 p.m. Friday on the Joetsu Shinkansen Line between Tsubamesanjo Station and Niigata, the destination for the service.

JR East sent a rescue train using the track for Tokyo-bound services that was unaffected by the outage. It arrived at the site around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the company said.

The passengers were transferred to the new train and reached Niigata Station about 2 hours and 40 minutes late. No passengers were ill, but all looked tired after the incident, it said.
