WASHINGTON (Kyodo) Henry Ford, who propelled the United States to the forefront of automobile manufacturing in the early 1900s, would be happy to know that Ford Motor Co.'s F-150 pickup, America's best-selling vehicle, won the 2004 North American Truck of the Year award.

Yet he might be a little surprised by the winner of the 2004 North American Car of the Year prize -- Toyota Motor Corp.'s new Prius model.

It is the first commercially mass-produced hybrid car.
