A 15-year-old girl from Murakami, Niigata Prefecture, is missing, police announced Thursday.

Police made Chisato Togashi's disappearance public as they have been unable to uncover any leads, investigators said.

The junior high school student went missing around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday after parting with a friend while on her way home from school along National Route 7. She was last seen in a rural area about 1 km from her house and 3 km northeast of JR Murakami Station, according to the police.

"She seemed normal as she walked away alongside the river," police quoted the friend as telling them.

Although some 80 police officers have been searching for her, they have found no clues. Investigators have no reason to believe she was involved in a traffic accident, and no signs of foul play were evident where she was last seen, they said.

The police also said they doubt she was carrying money or a mobile phone.
